Short description
Shelly Dimmer Gen4 (the Device) is a single-channel smart dimming controller which allows remote control of dimmable lights and dimming drivers through a mobile phone, tablet, PC, or home automation system. It supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Zigbee connectivity. The Device can work standalone in a local Wi-Fi network or be operated through cloud home automation services. It can be accessed, controlled, and monitored remotely from any place with internet connectivity, as long as it's connected to the Internet.
Shelly Dimmer Gen4 has an embedded Web Interface for monitoring and controlling the device, as well as adjusting its settings. The device can be used as a trailing edge dimmer switch, with or without a neutral wire.
The Device is Matter compatible.
Main features
- No need for neutral: The Device can be used without a neutral wire.
- Bypass: Required when used without neutral and the load is under 20 W. Helps prevent light leakage when turned off.
- Groups of lights: Groups can be used, but all lights must have the same consumption (same model and manufacturer).
- Bluetooth: Complies with Bluetooth standard; enables short-range data exchange.
- BLE Gateway: Facilitates communication between BLE and Wi-Fi-enabled devices.
- Wi-Fi: Connects to wireless networks.
- Wi-Fi Range extender: Retransmits Wi-Fi signals to extend reach.
- Zigbee: Integrates with platforms like Home Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Google Smart Home.
- Zigbee Range extender for IoT devices: Expands Zigbee network range by receiving, strengthening, and retransmitting signals.
- Scripting: Enables automation via custom scripts.
- Basic Schedules: Supports weekly schedules and routines including brightness, transition duration, and flip value.
- Advanced Schedules: Supports detailed annual schedules with time adjustments from seconds to months, including brightness, transition duration, and flip value.
- Auto on/off timers: Allows setting automatic on/off times.
- Local actions: Enables local automation within the Wi-Fi network (brightness, transition, flip value).
- Webhooks: Supports lightweight, event-driven communication with other devices.
- Compatibility: Highly compatible with third-party home automation systems.
- No need for hub: Ready for use locally or remotely via Shelly Smart Control or third-party systems.
- Activity log: Stores detailed event history.
- KVS (Key-value storage): Provides persistent storage for key-value pairs.
- Safety: Over current/voltage/power protections. These may not function properly without a neutral wire.
- Power measurement:
- Voltage (V), current (A), and consumption (W) are displayed when used with neutral.
- Power consumption cannot be measured without neutral.
- Night Mode: Sets specific brightness during nighttime hours.
- Transition duration: Controls dimming time from 0% to 100% (on) and 100% to 0% (off).
- Minimum brightness on toggle On: Applies minimum brightness (default: 3%) when turning on, if current brightness is below this threshold. Not applied if explicit transitions are defined in Schedules/Actions.
- Min/Max brightness: Adjusts dimming range for more precise control.
- Switch/Button input mode: Flexible input control via switches/buttons:
- One-button dimming control
- Dual-button dimming control
- Button fade rate: Controls how quickly output brightness changes while holding buttons (default: 3x).
- Button presets: Sets state on double-click (default: 100%).
- Automatic dimming calibration: Ensures smooth dimming across full range. Must be performed after new installation, factory reset, or load change:
- Starts automatically on first toggle (via physical switch, app, UI, or RPC).
- Can be triggered by simultaneously long-pressing both buttons for 5 seconds. Calibration lasts up to 2 minutes. On success, light turns on for 10 seconds, then turns off.
- Virtual components: Dynamically created components that don’t exist physically at startup.
- KNX: Supports KNXnet/IP communication.
- Wide range of integrations: Integrates with third-party systems via HTTP API, MQTT(s), Webhooks (HTTP/HTTPS), UDP.
- Integration with Smart Home Platforms: Works with Google Home, Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings for voice control and automation.
- Local and Cloud Control: Functions independently in local Wi-Fi network or via cloud services.
- Matter: Enables quick and simple setup in smart home ecosystems.
Use cases
- Retrofit existing lighting systems even without a neutral wire, preserving current switches and wiring.
- Control dimmable lights to set perfect brightness levels.
- Create smart schedules for automated brightness adjustments throughout the day.
- Enhance ambiance in restaurants, bars, or cafes.
- Sync lights with sunrise/sunset times using smart schedules.
- Enable night mode for reduced brightness at night.
- Integrate with third-party systems like Home Assistant, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings.
- Dim lights up/down with single or double button press.
- Improve safety by automating lights to turn on when motion is detected (e.g., Shelly Motion).
